Makati is definately one of the cleanest places in Manila, and you are right... lots of shopping choices etc. However, Makati is also way more expensive than anywhere else in the Philippines (that I have been to anyway). This may sound strange, but also I don't really feel like I'm in a foreign country in Makati. You could take Makati with it's clean streets and skyscrapers and place it somewhere in the US and it would feel just like an American city... Does that make sense? :D

I guess I just prefer the rural and more rustic places when I am there. That way I really feel like I am getting away from it all and experiencing the Philippines.

I do somewhat agree with HeyJoe, thats why I like to spend my last 2 or 3 days in MAKATI before returning to the USA. I go there, unwind, shop and eat. :D :D :D

Price wise, yea, it's more, but still cheaper than the STATES, another nice thing, walk out of the hotel and ther you have shopping, eating and all....it's right in front of you. No wasted time and $$$ in taxis , going back and forth, so do you really save $$ staying elsewhere? ;)

I'm looking forward to going back to MINDANAO in a few months, then to BOHOL, CAMIGUIN ISLAND, but I'm also looking forward to my stay in MAKATI! :D

It dawned to me more this last trip how much of a city boy i am. Not that i don´t enjoy the calm laid back life in Bohol or elsewhere but i´d get bored if i would spend too much time there without having access to everything that Makati has to offer. I just need the feeling of the city pulse. Wouldnt want to spend an entire stay in Makati but will spend a few more days there on our next trip.

Each to his own i guess.....;)

Cheers!

Makati habitue here! :)

Say, why do you want to buy a condo in Rockwell?  Is it because of the bars around?  Being in the Greenbelt area is much, much better.

don't get me wrong.  i like rockwell too. i hang out there as well.  i guess i just mentioned that Greenbelt was far better because if you conduct business in the philippines, Greenbelt is closer to the Central Business District.

cheerio!

oh, by the way, have you spoken to broker from rockwell already?

best if you get someone to scout around for you.  over in the internet, you will most likely get rate card costs.

When I think of Makati, one other city comes to mind for me ... NYC.

Being a southern boy by birth, I could never see living anywhere in Manila or the surrounding areas.

I stayed 2 days in the beginning and 5 days in the end of my trip in Makati (1 month in the philippines in total). On my last trip to the Philippines in 2005 I stayed in Ermita which was a bit different ;-). I stayed in Makati Palace Hotel which suited me fine, with a pool on the top.  It was a good place to spend the last days before going back to Sweden. It reminds me quite a lot about Sukhumvit in Bangkok with a great array of choices nearby. Although the prices was ridicolously high compared to other parts of Manila and especially of course rural areas, one find it is worth it, as it is still a lot cheaper than in the west. The only annoyance with the place i stayed was that it is almost ON Padre Burgos with all the Viagra sellers hassling you every time you go out. I got quite angry with one of those (I know I should keep my temper) after he asked me for the 5th day in a row if I wanted to buy. The one thing to notice in Manila is that getting around is harder than for example Bangkok. The Skytrain in Bkk is great, and it even makes it less important that you stay close to the shopping or restaurants as it is so cheap. taxis in Manila are cheap, but sometimes the traffic is totally mad.

Question to Patrick! Where should i post the report about my trip? Should I create a new topic?

TheSwede, Välkommen tillbaks till Sverige! (that means: Welcome back to Sweden)

Even though i kind of know you would have wanted to stay longer in the Phils right? :).

Well, we tried having a "trip report forum" but but the lack of posts showed it was´nt for this Board. So, the best thing is to (as u said) create a new topic & tell us about your trip in general (in this forum). However, please use the review forum for writing reviews of establishments you visited such as hotels, resorts, restos or any business. Reviews are always very much appreciated ! ;)

If u have photos that don´t fit into any of the above topics plase share those pics in the Photo forum.

Cheers!

Ok, Thanks Patric! I will create a new topic in the Philippines section! Like you say it is always hard to go home from Asia (especially the Philippines :)) The funny thing though is that I longed home during my last days! That was an odd and unusual feeling for me, as I usually get depressed when it is time to go home! But the feeling now, at home, is the same as usual, hehe. Already starting to plan the next trip! Maybe Manila gets too much for me sometimes. During the last full day I did the thing I had decided to do before going to the Philippines. A visit to Tondo/North Port District! I was scared but I made it out of there with all my belongings! More about this in my trip report! Hope to get it done as soon as possible. I start to work on monday :( so I will see when I have time to do it! I will put reviews of some (or all maybe) of the places I stayed in the review section!

Next time I will for sure go to Palawan and Mindanao! Haven't been to those yet!!!!! Probably also Panay and more of Negros!

I tried to live in Makati, but had to leave after two weeks. Raised in rural Sweden and never lived higher than 2nd floor i guess i can never get used to living in a big city. I like to stay in Malate/Ermita for a couple of weeks, for vacation, but then I want to return to the province.

I currently live in Angeles City, but my favourite city is San Fernando, La Union. It's just the right size for me.

Makati is great - I have stayed a couple of times in the last three years at the Travelers Inn just off P. Burgos - Good times just sitting at the Bellagio Hotel watching the world go by. Shopping at Rockwell, also Cinema is such good quality and much cheaper than the crazy UK prices.
I hope to move (with my family) from the UK in the next few months and we expect to rent for the first year hopefully near to Rockwell as it's perfect for all the facilities.
A short Taxi ride from Port Bonifacio which is the new place to be!!!! Great Mall, Restaurants, wide streets, parks etc really looking like its going to be a great place.
