Last trip i bought a couple of boxes of Tabacalera half Coronas Cigars by La Flor De La Isabela. These Philippine made Cigars are mild & smooth in taste, i don´t know much about Cigars but i sure do like these. Next trip i´m gonna opt for full lenght Coronas. The half Coronas are practical but a bit to short to give u the right "feeling"....
If u are into Tobacco U´re gonna love the prices in the Phils, this goes of course for cigarettes but also for Cigars compared to what u would have to dish out back home.
Cheers !

I also enjoy the Flor de Isabella line of cigars. That same company makes a couple of super-premiums too-
The 1881 line and the Don Juan Urique(spelling?) line.
But the best "bang for the buck" is the normal line which you mentioned. The others are even better, but also cost quite a bit more. I also smoke the Antonio Jiminez coronas.
I have been a premium cigar smokers for years and cubans are my favourites. Of course with the prices, only for sepcial occasions. Phil cigars are quite good in general, my only complaint about them is they are on the mild side. I like strong cigars the best- like cuban cigars.
Of course most casual cigar smokers like milder probably. I wish one of the Phil cigars companies would come out with a special strong blend of cigar, I really think it would be a world class cigar in that case.

At7000 !
Well, came back from our November trip & i had the chance to try out a few new brands/styles of Filipino made Cigars & even a Cuban cigar (to have something to compare with).
First off, i bought the Cuban Cigar in the swedish "taxfree" outlet at The Airport in Gothenburg as we were leaving for Manila ($23) for 1 Cigar. It was "Romeo Y Julieta, Churcill". This was my first Cuban Cigar & i must admit i liked it a lot.
Later, in Manila at The Kultura Filipino in SM at Ayala, Makati i bought (went there a couple of times) several different brands & styles of Filipino Cigars, havent tried them all yet but i´m going to start my amateur evaluation of the ones i´ve tried so far.
This is a pic of the aluminum casing the Cuban Cigar came in

My favorite Filipino Cigar brand so far is "Hecho A Mano, Antonio Gimênez, Robusto". All Cuban tobacco but made in the Phils. Has more taste than the other Filipino brands i´ve tried.

A lower priced brand is "Flor De Filipinas, Coronas Sumatra". Good cigar for a good price.

Also tried the " Alhambra mild, Churchills, by La Flor De La Isabela". Nice mild churchil cigar & a good quality feel to it. (Php 249.75 for a pack of 3)

One brand that i really didnt like is "Northern Cigars, Churchills". This was by far the worst brand of Cigars i´ve tried so far. They looked like a 3 year old had handrolled them & they tasted like something between a russian cigarette & i don´t know what... I smoked one & threw out the rest. Sorry to say, i bought a box of 25 (Php 800-850)..
Here are some pics of the above mentioned Cigar brand i didnt like

I will follow up on this Cigar topic when i´ve tried the other brands & styles i bought.

Patric, you and I have something in common. While still living in the US, one of my siblings had a friend who was in Cuba. Quite regularly, th friend would send cigars to my sibling, who would forward a few on to me.
In the first packet I ever received to add to my humidor, was in fact, a Romeo Y Julieta. I nice cigar to say the least. I forget what size it was, as it has been a number of years ago, around 2000? Anyway, back then I enjoyed the flavor of a good cigar.

Hey,
I never looked, because I smoked the few cigars I had, as I bought them.
The Tinder Box in Banilad had a pretty decent sized walk in Humidor, but I haven't seen any for sale around Cebu.

Well, that might just be the way to do it i guess.....
It´s just the thought of having a nice cool looking Humidor (for a fraction of the prices back in Europe) that would be tempting .
Cheers !

Picture this. Although you don't have a humidor, you do have your Filipina walk up with cigar in hand, while you are laying your (foreigner-sized) hammock and a gentle Philippines breeze comes in off the shore. She lights your cigar for you and you are in hog heaven.

Well, finally the weather in Scandinavia was today so nice (warm) that it was possible to sit outside & enjoy a good Cigar . Now, this time around it was an evaluation of the: 1881 La Flor de la Isabela Tradicionale, came in a pack of 5 for Php 679.75 only !
A good tasty Cigar which i will certainly by again.
Here is a couple of pics

To show u how long this Cigar is, i put it next to a quarter

Another Hecho A Mano Cigar, the same Cigar as the Robusto but this time in Churchill size. It can´t be compared to a Cuban as the Julietta....but considering the prize AND the taste it comes close. Still my favorite among Filipino Cigars! It has a "tasty" flavor..... goes great with a glass of Amaretto
A pack of three is Php 399.75 & was bought at Kultura Filipino in Makati

It looks like this thread is long and forgotten. I am leaving Colombia for the Philippines this November. I smoke Monte Cristo #4s...Cuban. I am a Canadian and have made many trips to Cuba for my favorite cigars. I am wondering if I should make a trip there before I leave here. I am hoping that there are a few cigars there that are somewhat comparible. I sure do love a good Cuban cigar from time to time. Nice to see there are some knowledgeable cigar smokers here.

Hey Franko !
Welcome to ThePhils.com !
Well, bringing a personal stash of cubans does´nt sound so bad but i´m sure u´ll find something to your liking of what is offered regarding cigars in the Philippines. There are lines that are more expensive than the ones i´ve reviewed (have´nt tried the expensive ones yet) & they might be closer to "cuban" quality/taste.
I hope this thread won´t be forgotten, the meaning is that those of us that enjoy cigars (filipino brands) review them so we better know what to go for. I´m a cigar newbie myself & happy for any good info on filipino cigars.
Cheers!

Hi Patric thanks for the welcome. Well I hope to buy some of those Filippino cigars myself and try them out. I am now living in Medelllin, Colombia and they have allot of cigars here. I don't find them good to smoke and gave up on them. I had my ex-wife pick up two boxes of Cuban cigars a few months back when whe was in Cuba. I only have 5 left and am seriously thinking of doing a run to Cuba for some cigars before I leave for the Philippines.
When I am in Cuba I smoke one cigar for breakfast, one for lunch, one for supper and one later on in the night. I have been to the factories in Havanna and have even bought a few cigars from the rollers. My Montecristos now cost around $119 USD. That's for a box of 25. That's about $5 a piece. They usually go for around $23 nowadays. And, the problem is there are so many fakes out there. I have even found fake Cuban cigars in the Airport here in Colombia!
At least when I go to Cuba and buy at the factory in Havanna, I know I am getting the real thing. Nothing like a good cigar and a good drink with great company.

He he, "fake Cubans".... i did´nt know that, but it does´nt surprise me though.
Yeah, i really enjoy (when in the Phils) to sit down after a good meal, having a drink (i usually drink Amaretto or kahlua with a cigar) & just relax .... Man, i miss the Phils so much .
What´s your choise of drink for your cigar?

Choice of drink for a cigar. Well I used to like a nice single malt scotch with my cigars. But to tell you the truth, the drink is only secondary to a good cigar. I can get into my Cuban cigar with a glass of milk, a coffee or even a drink of water. Maybe a bar drink like Sex on the Beach would compliment a good Cuban cigar...LOL
