I wish to retire in the Philippines and there are many questions which need to be answered.

Firstly, I intend to go to the Philippines with my daughter in December for very important family matters, perhaps for a month or more. How long can I stay in the Philippines before I need a visa? There are many types of visa. Can you explain clearly what each type is for? How long is the short-stay visa for? Does my daughter need a visa or can she apply for one over there? If I do need a visa, should it be before I book the flight? Is it a requirement that I must have a return ticket before applying? Can I decide when I am over there to extend my stay in extreme circumstances?

Please note that I have a Filipino passport which will expire in 2 years' time. Should this not act as an entry requirement as well as a permit to stay there permanently in the near future with my partner and daughter?

My daughter was born in 1987 before I was issued with my British passport on 04 May 2007. My partner and my daughter both have British passports.

Do I still need dual citizenship even though I still have my up-to-date Filipino passport? If so, where does this ceremony take place? When I am ready to live there permanently, I would buy one property to live in and another buy-to-let to support ourselves. Shoudn't this be acceptable by the state for the cost of living? What would all the requirements be before proceeding with this idea? I will need to ship some household goods, which will include some alcohol. What is permissible and what is not, according to the customs regulations in the Philippines? In order to transfer money from any UK bank to a bank in the Philippines, what are the charges involved? What is the best way to deal with this transaction?

Finally, could you recommend a book about retiring or living in the Philippines? If so, send me the details.

Please answer all the questions that I have asked.

Thank you,
Terez

P.S. We sent these questions to the UK Philippine Embassy but they did not reply.

I cant answer your questions regarding shipment from Britain but with a philippine passport you should get entry for a full year. Your child should as well. Since you are not married your partner probably won't unless you can do some fast talking and perhaps a little donation to the immigration officer relief fund.

I can't really help with your other questions but a visit in person to the Embassy might get some answers.

I am sorry, I cant answer any of your questions. I have seen some books but all of them seemed to be a bit outdated. I am asking this question again. Anyone know any recent good book about retiring in the Philippines?
