Just curious. Why did you choose the Philippines? There are other countries in Asia/South America/Africa that are richer, more well-known, more peaceful, lesser crime, etc. to live in/retire in.
As for us Filipinos, we really do not have any choice. But as the saying goes, humble it may be, there's no place like home.
Thanks

Personally, there are many reasons. They are, but not in this order!
1) Great English
2) The ladies can be very beautiful and are very nice, what I mean, the culture there has enough American influence that westerners don't have a difficult time trying to adjust to STRANGE cultures and rituals.
3) Overall, as a whole, Americans are treated good there, with respect....as long as they show some.
4) Richer, usually equals to Higher Prices ....therefore usually a little "better deal" in the PHILIPPINES
5) I think the noise and crime depends on where at in the PHILIPPINES. Some places have it, some don't! But South America & Africa????
I think many other Asian countries have a richer culture, heritage I guess could be a better term. Maybe not richer, just more different to us westerners. The Philippines are a cross of Americanism. Spanish, and some Asian cultures. Good and Bad, I don't feel too lost there, but on the other hand, you don't have the different types of Temples and such like in other Asian countries.
As far as other countries being more well known....I don't think so. But I do want to visit China, Thailand, Australia someday.
I have known Filipinos most of my life, most of them have always been very pleasant to be around and to be friends with. I honestly can't say that about others.

Hi,
I'm a bit bias but over 20 years ago when I first visited the Philippines and eventually got married I had already made up my mind to retire one day to live there. We have a house in Bukidnon, Mindanao up in the mountains where it's hot during the day but can be cool in the evenings.
I love the food the life and most of all my wife so what better reason do I have for living in the Philippines.
Kind regards.

I'm going to basically echo what the others have said. The Philippines is the most "Western" in thoughts, values, etc of the Asian countries I have been in... and it has a long shared history (for better or worse) with the US. The fact that most people speak and understand English to some degree is helpful as well.
