Hello All;
This is my first post here, so hello, I am looking forward to talking with you all.
Anywho I had the pleasure of a hands on with this device at CES and I must say that it is an amazing value in such a small package. As you know it is always best to keep high priced valuables out of view when you visit the Philippines, so this HD Pocket Camcorder is PERFECT for capturing those amazing moments, not to mention it looks like a cell phone and is about the same size as one as well.
The device shoots in 30 and 60 frames at 720P HD (also shoots in standard def too). However one of the key reasons I am pointing this pocket cam to you all is the new design (Kodak Zx1) Which is due out in April for a low low price of $150 USD, It runs on 2 AA batteries with a record time of 2 hours per battery load. It is also Weather, & Dirt Resistant and is designed for those water side sports. It is NOT water proof, however you can purchase water proof pouches that will work fine with it (up to 15 feet)
The device uses SD and SDHC cards upto 32GB. Shooting on a 32 GB card at 720P HD 30fps will get you 10 hours of record time. Which is fantastic!!! However if you want to keep the cards small so that you can swap them out when needed and not spend a fortune, I recommend that you purchase a bunch of class 4 to 6, 4 GB SD cards which will give you approx 1 hour of footage at 720P 30 fps (half of that at 60fps) same cost as a mini DV casette. This is the perfect solution since they only cost about $8 for a 4 GB card on ebay.
The video footage is stunning on this device, and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is traveling overseas to the Philippines. Something that does not require special batteries to run, so if you ever run out you can pick up and genaric AA in local stores there, or you can use rechargables. The video is NOT washed out, and produces some of the richest and most colorful footage I have had the pleasure to view on these small devices. I have worked with other simular devices before, which are also good, but for the humid climate, something that is rugged and can take a beating, and something that will not break the bank if you lose it or it gets damaged. This is the camcorder for you.
In full light during the day, the footage is absolutly amazing, also it works extremly well in low light with very little grain. (you need to spend over 1k on a HD camcorder to get good low lux anyway)
