I want to thank & give credit to the very helpful members of the http://www.livingincebuforums.com especially member "deanash" for helping me find out how to go about to get an MRI for my wife when in Cebu.

Ok, We were staying in Tagbilaran Bohol & made all in all 2 day trips over to Cebu with the Ocean Jet.

I had (before we left Sweden) called the office of Dr. Noel Belonguel at The Perpetual Succour Hospital & talked to his secretary to book an appointment but was told "it´s first come first serve". The Doctors office opens at 9.45am but the Doc usually comes in around 10 am.

We arrived with the Ocean Jet to Cebu & we had some time to kill before the Doc´s office opened so we went with our driver to a café, after a while we called the Doc´s secretary & she told us we were nr 8 in line but that she would text us when our "number" was coming up...which se did. So, we met with Dr. Belonguel who we found to be very helpful, my wife explained that she have had lower back problems for quite a while & wanted/needed to know what was causing it.  Dr. Belonguel asked all the questions he needed to ask & came to the conclusion that my wife needed an MRI for him to be able to give her the right diagnosis.

The secretary of Dr. Belonguel really is a great woman, she went out of her way to get us a slot for an MRI since the MRI at the Perpetual Succour was out of order at the time. She called two other Hospitals in Cebu & succeded in getting us the MRI at 3 pm the same day at The Chong Hua Hospital !!!

We had again some time to kill until the MRI & had lunch with our Driver.

We got to The Chong Hua Hospital & when u go through the front doors/entrance, take a left & keep walking till u see a sign that says MRI, go through those glass doors & go up to the "front desk" girl & she´ll have u filling out some forms + give u a bill that u´ll have to pay before u get to do the MRI (if u have an MRI slot be sure u are there ahead of time... like 30 minutes cause u will need that time for the forms & paying your bill). We walk back (past the main entrance) & keep walking till we get to the "billing desks" or what ever u call it, getting a number & wait till it´s our turn. Then we go back to the MRI section. There is a waiting room within the MRI section (aircon) where u can sit & wait till your spouse is finished having the MRI. The procedure took an hour for my wife, so a tip for u who are waiting is to bring a book/laptop/newspaper or whatever cause it´s kind of boring just sitting there. According to my wife it´s a pain in the butt lying completely still for an hour (no pain, just frustrating).

We explained to the Girl at the front desk & the MRI Technician that we needed the results the following morning (usually it takes 24 hours). Thanks to their help & efforts we could (the next morning) after we had arrived to Cebu again with the Ocean Jet have our Driver take us directly to the Hospital & pick up the MRI Results at 9.45 am.

So, back to the Café...called Dr. Belonguels secretary who informed us that we where nr 6 in line & texted us back when we where getting closer (the Café was just a 5 minute drive from the Hospital).

We meet Dr. Belonguel again & handed over the MRI results & he then told my wife what she needs to do to get well (Physical therapy amongst other things but no surgery).

Total cost for these visits:

Php 500 for 2 visits to Dr Belonguel

Php 8580 for the MRI at The Chong Hua Hospital

He he, would u believe this?!? All this within 2 days for under $ 200 !!!!

This will significantly speed up the process back home in Sweden for my wife to get the right treatment for her backpain.

Conclusion:

Dr. Belonguel is a great Doc (Neurologist) & calmly explains everything in a easy way & answers whatever questions u might have.

What i found out is how valuable it is for the customer/patient that the staff, in this case Dr, Belonguels secretary & the MRI staff are handpicked, competent, as well as very helpful.

Now, please don´t forget to show your appreciation to med staff/secretaries that treats u well (i´m talking Pesos here!) It does´nt have to be much but i believe that good service should be rewarded & it will hopefully help the next "Kano" in line.

Each to his own, but since we made trips from Bohol to Cebu we decided to have a driver with us at all times when in Cebu since we where going back & forth beetween Hospitals & so on. The thing is that it was for us impossible to know exactly how long/many hours this would take each day so that´s why we had the driver with us (having a driver for 6-7 hours costs u peanuts anyway). But, haggle for a rate per hour !

Thanks for the reference Patric. It's good when people can work together to help each other out with important things such as medical, dental, and even every day living.

Truly appreciated.

Hey Paul !

I agree !

Advice from those who are experienced or who just simply have info that can/should be shared is invaluable for all of us who love the Philippines.

For every trip i make to the Phils i actually get more & more humble realizing how much there is to learn about the Philippines...so i´m like a spunge trying to learn the culture, talk to as many people as possible be that Expats or/and Filipinos.

The only frustrating part is that since we (me & my wife) don´t live there, the time we have in the Phils is limited each trip/visit.

But, already planning for our next trip & we´ve only been home for a few days :D.

Cheers !
