I know a lot of people have their views on NAIA... be that good or bad.

Personally , when i compare NAIA with many other Airports it does´nt look that bad after all.

I like NAIA cause it´s small & the staff is helpful. I also like Shiphol in Amsterdam cause its "all in one"...no need to take shuttles and so on... even if its big & u have to do some walking.

The worst Airport i´ve ever been to is Charles de Gaulle Airport in France. I just could´nt believe how the hell an international Airport has staff that can´t speak English (perhaps they dont want to). Quite obvious that they (the staff) expect U & everyone else to speak French... This results in u as a customer not getting any help or assistance what so ever, since u dont speak French.

Some say the French are good at design....Well, who ever designed the Carles deGaulle Airport must have been drinking to much Wine.... Terminals here, Terminals there, Terminals everywhere..... U have to take a shuttle/bus to get from one Terminal to another... Does´nt work very well since nobody speaks English... Results in U ending up at the wrong Terminal not knowing where the hell u are ! No use asking the Airport staff for help... Why? Yeah, u guessed it... They dont speak English !

Conclusion: Even if NAIA is old & considered a relic, I like it !

If u dont speak French... Stay away from the worlds worst & most ineffective Airport; Charles de Gaulle !

Cheers !

I have no problem with the airport in Manila. Now the Cagayan De Oro  City airport, I thought I was in a run down bus terminal in Memphis, Tn. at first.  Very scary - but it works well, and the people are nice and helpful!

France - never wanted to go there. You summed up my  view of the whole country. I've never heard anything good about it, unless you ask a Frenchman. Thanks for the review, I will for sure stay away. I don't think they like Americans there, they say we smell funny - it's called soap & water.

Well, the bottom line is... In Germany they will make an effort.. (even if most of them dont know a word of English...at least they will try..... In France it sure seems like they dont want to !

The Philippines is unique as it is the only English speaking country in Asia.

I probably would´nt love The Philippines as much as i do If there were a language barrier as in most Asian countries.

Cheers !

Great Points,

I first was thinking of going to S. Korea, but the language thing made me decide on The Philippines, plus the Pinays are more pretty, in my opinion!

I have heard that in France, if you mispronounce a French word, they get offended and act as if they have no clue at all on what you are trying to ask. I heard this from "pro" France people, to be honest, one friend of mine said that once they got into the countryside (away from the cities) the people were very friendly and they even bathed, but they still laughed and made fun of the attempt to speak French.

Hey Balto,

First, Welcome to the Board, and THANKS for the Post!;)

We Americans as a whole don't speak French,:P but I bet you can find someone in our International Airports (that have Flights coming in from France) that speak French.:D And nearly EVERY high school offers it to their students.

:DENGLISH:P IS the most widely used language on the Planet, FILIPINOS are smart :cool:and understand that, that is one reason they keep the English language alive in the Philippines. Much bigger AND Better opportunities for FILIPINOS when they travel or go out of the country to work.

The worst airport I've been to so far is Kuwait (and the same goes for the airline). It didn't help that I had to spend nearly12 hours sitting on the floor of a corridor (at night) due to delays, either. The only little restaurant open served nasty spam and pickle sandwiches and flat pepsi. The toilets were foul and filthy, and the 'breakfast' of cold tinned hot dog sausages, stale bread and hard boiled eggs they had the cheek to serve us in the morning gave me the squits all the way to Manila. I hope I never have to repeat that experience!

As for airport staff in international airports not speaking English, you should try London Heathrow! The staff on the floor (cleaners, porters etc) seem not to understand a word of English. Unless they are deliberately pretending not to.

Surely the first requirement of a job in the airport ought to be an ability to speak the language?

Hhm.. Well,  between -95 to 2000 i flew (mostly) back & forth with Brittish Airlines (Sweden - US) with a transfer/layover at London Heathrow.

The first route i did through Heathrow was after beeing up for like 30 hours (working the night shift before my flight). So, getting to Heathrow i was in a hurry to get to my gate...then there was a gate change....(anyone surprised).... Anyway, i got to the point where i didnt know what damn gate to go to or how to find it... I just stopped, dropped my handluggage & had mixed feelings of frustration, anger & just beeing exhausted... when i saw this airport staff member (Brittish), about my age. Now i don´t know but i got the feeling/sensed this guy was ex military as myself, not so much for the haircut but there was something else... so i stopped him & explained my dilemma. He looked at me for a second or two (had the same kind of haircut as him) ...nodded & smiled..." just stay put, I´ll check this out for you!" & off he went...came back a few minutes later with the info i needed to get to/find my gate. I shook his hand & thanked him for beeing of great help.

Now, this is the kind of staff member an airport should be proud to have! Also the kind of Brittish behavior that i have gotten to know & appreciate among the Brits that íve met abroad (& in the Philippines).

Cheers !

Dallas airport is right up there with the worst I've been in... had to take a friggin train for what seemed like 5 miles to get from Delta to my next airline.

Atlanta is also a pain in the ass...

I like the PAL termina in Manila... its fairly quick to get in and out also. Only thing I don't like is that they changed the place where you get ground transport so now you have to walk 1/2 km with your bags, book a taxi, then walk another 1/2 Km to wait for a helluva long time if traffic is bad (which is generally the case)

Cebu has a nice airport. Easy in, easy out.
