That's right! Three crisp $100 Bills were removed from the envelope I had placed in their Safety Deposit Box. Yes, I did lock it.
I will post a copy of the findings of their In House Investigation. They claim no responsibilty. They said it was my fault because I didn't have any of their staff members inventory the contents.
QUESTION: What hotel that offers Safety Deposit Boxes inventories the contents? I sure don't know of any.
After pressure from one of my Corporation Members the hotel offered me a-30%-discount on their rooms. Ah, No Thnx.
After more pressure was applied they offered me 5 nights free stay. Let's see. Five nights doesn't even come close to the money I lost.
I said "No Thanks" and I was going to let everyone I know about what had happened.
They told me they couldn't believe one of their employees took it. It had never happened before.
IF I HAD KNOWN THEIR SPARE KEY WAS READILY AVAILABLE TO THE STAFF I WOULDN'T HAVE USED THE BOX.
They do tell you not to leave your valuables in the room and if they were to come up missing they would not be responsible, but there is no such desclaimer for the safety deposit box.
BOTTOM LINE: DON'T STAY AT casa rosario.
JOMADS
PS I forgot to mention that the bills' serial numbers had been recorded and I produced a copy of the serial numbers and gave it to the Manager. The bills that were stolen were not in sequence. It's as if the bills were taken one at a time from the middle of the pile on different occasions.

Hey,
If you haven't yet, please post that information on every forum you are a member of, especially any LinC forums. If you are not a member of CCT Yahoo Group, I will be happy, with your permission, to repost it there too.
People definitely need to know when things like this happen.

THANKS PAUL,
I have posted on two Yahoo Groups as well as the Livingincebu Forum.
If I've missed one, yes, please, by all means, post it.
Thnx again,
JOMADS
PS. The Hotel Management did acknowledge that I had been a good guest. Never making any trouble and always paying in advance. I had stayed there over 1 month in total. They didn't want to lose my business. How could I possibly want to stay there any longer? I had no confidence in them at all.

The following is directly from the document they gave me: All typos are as it appears on the document. They couldn't even take the time to correct thier mistakes..
INCIDENT REPORT
JOSEPH
Japan
090-xxxxxxxx (My cell number)
Sir:
Alleged lost of $300.00from safe deposit box, placed in an envelope with rubber band from Western Union Change.
For six years of Casa Rosario operation, this is the first time that an incident like this happened.
You did not submit an inventory of the item you stored in your deposit box nor did you require any hotel personnel to identify or count the item or witness your identification and counting of the said items.
As per your conversation with the managing director, you admitted that you never counted or check the money given to you from Western Union before placing it in your safety deposit box.
According to Ms.. Gennie Padua, front desk personnel on duty, your envelope has been tied with rubber band and that it would be hard to intentionally open and steal from the said envelope.
We are very sorry for your unfortunate experience as to when and where you lost your money. We are presently investigationg the matter.
Tusing J. Perez
Operations Manager
Like I said. No one offered any assistance or advice whatsoever. There are no notices on the use of safety deposit boxes published or provided anywhere. No guidence whatsoever.
I didn't remove $300 from the pile. I did not exchange it for Pesos. I did not spend it. It was taken from me at the hotel.

A little FYI:
I have stayed at a number of hotels and pension houses in the Philippines over the years. I have never had one to inventory anything I placed in the box. Some have, however, asked me to write the contents down on a sheet that also explained the hotel / pension house responsibility if anything was stolen.
I mean, the whole damned idea for them to keep the items in a safe is for that reason .. for it to remain SAFE!
Well, the next time you visit the Philippines, I will have a safe (although it may be inconvenient for you) in my house. I assure you, the contents will be safe there. Just let me know if you are ever interested.

Well, i can only say this; I would NEVER submit to ANY kind of inventory of what i would put in my Hotel room safe. Never heard of anyone who´ve done this.
I have seen "waivers" or what ever one wants to call it by Hotel room safes stating that the Hotel wont be responsible for any loss & so on. Actually, there has been these "waivers" at every Hotel room safe that i´ve seen in the Phils.
Nevertheless, i´ve been fortunate enough not having anything disappear though.
As i see it... if this is indeed the first time this has happened to the above mentioned Hotel...well, now they know (& can take measures)...However, the cynical side of me is thinking along the lines: Hotels in the Phils (far from all, but still to many) are not aware of how something like this can spread quickly among customers & potential customers to be, thanks to our dear world wide web.
Many western tourists as well as returning Filipinos living overseas are reading & are active on Boards/communities. Beeing active on Boards is a VERY good advantage for all of us considering it puts pressure on Hotel owners & management to be aware & get a grip before it´s to late....preferably working with the customer to avoid/prevent or do good if damages have already occurred.
My hopes are that Phil related Sites/Boards will become so recognised that they in the end will help tourists/expats & even Filipinos living in the Phils (dealing with Philippine businesses/establisments).
Jomads! I hope your next trip will be without disappointments .
Cheers!

YES!
The POWER of the Web!
I wanted to add the following:
Of course I counted it. I went over each and every serial number with Luella at the Lapu X2 Branch. All the Bills were there. Before leaving Western Union the $$ went into my bag and didn't come out till I went to the Safety Deposit Box in their office.
I got ripped off and c. rosario needs to suffer. Customer Service is taking another hit. The tourists and Expats who live there are the ones bringing the $$ to the economy. We need a voice.
One of the office people was in the room. I asked to use one of the boxes. She asked me two questions:
1. Which box are you going to use?
2. Are you using our lock?

How hard could it be exactly to steal from an envelope secured with only a rubber band? Not a great defense!

| yes! its the same all through the phils, i have been going there some 13 years and have heard many of the same stories. my advice dont take to much money with you to the phils. you can rely on ATM machines in all the large citys ie. cebu ,angles, manila, and many others. if you can use hong kong shangi.they allow up to 30 thou in one transaction, a good bank in angles is bank of the philippines islands they allow 15 thou.and you get agood rate of exchange. its simply not worth the effot of carring around large somes of money. all the best william field. australia
