Greetings to All,
We stayed at New World Renaissance Hotel-Makati City at 2 different times. Once in 2002 and again in 2003. So it is safe to assume we enjoyed our first stay there.
The hotel is VERY Nice! We had NO complaints about the quality, service, size of the room or anything. The staff was very helpful AND knowledgeable, and they looked VERY professional. My only complaint on our first stay was that I ordered a Hotel limo to pick us up from the Airport, all we got was a Toyota Camry. (A regular toyota camry & call it a limo, why not just send us a yugo or a metro) Well, the driver was VERY good, even asked us if his driving was ok, "too fast-too slow?", showed concern for our comfort. Well, I mentioned the Camry to the hotel and they charged us for reg. taxi. We enjoyed our stay.
On our 2nd stay, again I ordered a LIMO. I STRESSED a LIMO. Again I get a Camry. When we get to the hotel I question them, "what do you people call a Limo around here?" Their answer - "A Toyota Camry" I was waiting for a laugh, giggle....maybe Joey De Leon & WOW MALI was going to pop out of nowhere ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kP9p_HMwPk ) I said "OK" and went to my room.
So I feel that I have been terrible misled, that's just the start of it. We just happen to be there on our 2nd stay just shortly AFTER the Indonesian Bombing of the Marriott's Hotel in Jakarta. Marriott owns New World REN. Security was tight - very tight. I wanted to take some nice photos of the hotel but was not allowed to . They search all of our luggage and anytime we left the hotel, upon our return we would be searched. No knives were allowed in, I purchased a Balisong in which I had to "smuggle" it back into the Hotel (don't ask ).
All of this + the so called LIMO ordeal really soured me on Marriott's and New World REN.
Now in their Defense - Looking back, I can't blame them for the tight security. I'm sure they weren't doing it for entertainment, we just happened to be there after a tragic event in another one of their hotels.
The Hotel is in a GREAT LOCATION, and the HOTEL is VERY BEAUTIFUL! It is across the street from MALLS, shopping. eating. It's there, no need for a taxi once you are at New World REN.
I would normally give it a 9 out of 10 . With a Camry Limo Deception - that drops it to a 7 out of 10. At the time, my personal car at home was MUCH nicer than a Camry.
Will we stay there in April ?- No, only because we want to check out some of the other nice hotels in the area. And it looks as if their price has gone up a bit.
I don't consider this a bad review, If you don't need a Limo - the New World Renaissance Hotel in MAKATI CITY is a GREAT choice!
After we returned home, I contacted their home office (Marriott's in the U.S.) about my lack of satisfaction and NEVER received an answer.
It was the nice, friendly AND helpful staff at the hotel that drew us back the second time and we stayed there 2 or 3 nights until we returned to the U.S.
I say, give them a try. Ask questions FIRST.
You will be impressed with their hotel - just not the Limo.
