The Hobbit House

When we arrived to the Philippines this time around (first night in Makati) we decided to check out the Hobbit House.

It´s a different style Resto all together.... The concept is unusual to say the least. The staff are all midgets & they (as i understand) always have a band/singer performing. When we went there we had luck on our side cause the famous Freddie Aguilar was on stage. Now, this man can really perform. He is very versatile in going from one type of song to another.

I´m not gonna sugarcoat this review cause i don´t believe it is in anyones interest.

Here goes; We ordered the Spaghetti carbonara & it was ok but i would want to give the Hobbit House another chance on our next visit & order something else.

What i really liked was the level of service from the staff & especially our waiter & of course Freddie Aguilar.

They have vendors tied to the Hobbit house that offer you to buy souveniers such as t-shirts/caps & what not, which is a good thing cause this place attracts a lot of tourists. I bought a cool turbo lighter with blue leds & The Hobbit house´s logo on it as a memory of our visit.

Now, i guess most people go here for the music & the special ambience of the "small people" staff.

Personally i would have enjoyed Freddie Aguilars performance so much more if they would have turned down the volume to half of what it was. Honestley, it´s a Resto, not a concert. It was just too loud.

All in all this is a place wortwhile your visit & prices are cheap too.

Location:

1801 A. Mabini Street

Am I correct in saying the Hobbit House is in Ermita? I have been there many times, but have yet to visit the Hobbit House.

Personally, I thought it was more than a restaurant/bar ... no?

Yep... restaurant, bar, live band. Most of the staff are midgets... good times, what's not to love?! :dude:

I usually pop in here when I'm staying nearby in Malate.

Don't bother with the Boracay Hobbit House though. There's a totally different Disneyland-ish vibe there compared to the Manila one, it's full of Koreans, expensive, and the music is not half as good.

Perhaps I'm being a bit too harsh - some people like the place. It's just much too cheesy-touristy for my taste. Not the same atmosphere as the Manila one.

Just want to say that the Hobbit House has relocated from Mabini Streer to M H Del Pilar Street.

Freddie still plays there (I think 2 x a week, Friday been one of those nights).

I didn't visit it when it was on Mabini, but have taken members of the family to the new location. Excellent acts, and very good service...

When did they relocate. I walked past it on Mabini street when I was there in Oct. I wanted to try it but my GF wanted to eat at our hotel. How far is it from the original location?

Don't know why they relocated. I was there last August.

Maybe they thought they'd get more customers as LA Bar and now Amazonia are both on Del Pilar Street.

It's situated more or less opposite Duck Inn...
