What´s your standpoint on legalizing cannabis? Would it be beneficial for filipinos as well as expats & tourists if cannabis would be legalized?

This is my take on this:

I´m a firm believer that it would indeed be more advantages for everyone if cannabis would to be somewhat controlled/legalized by the government. It could (in the same way as alcohol/tobacco) be taxed when sold in approved businesses (like it´s done in Holland) such as coffe shops/bars etc.

I´m not knocking alcohol cause it is the nr 1 drug of choise for a lot of people (yes, it is a drug). But, why should people only have one legal choise? As it is today in the Phils cannabis is NOT legal & i would therefore never even consider using it & would strongly advise any foreigners to do the same.

I also think it´s necessary for people to have an open mind..... Cannabis (marijuana) is a loaded topic. Ususally people are very much against it beeing legalized without actually knowing anything about the effects (how it effects a person when using it). We all know all to well the negative effects of alcohol when used in excess or by people who should´nt really use it as a drug cause of different aspects such as individual hereditary dispositions to develop alcholism & the kind of individuals we also know all to well who gets violent & all together personality changed when drunk. Should alcohol therefore be banned? Of course not! It´s up  to everyone to show a personal responsibility as to when/how/if  use any drug. So, how does taking a few puffs on a joint (marijuana) effect the average Jane or Joe? Well, in general (depending on strain) it will work as a relaxing drug.... the kind of drug that is best used when either alone or with friends doing something one enjoys...for example watching a funny movie..... You will sleep like a baby waking up with no hangover.  Any side effects? Yes, laughing a lot & getting cravings (munchies) for just about anything that tastes good. Making something illegal won´t make it go away..... Allthough i´m drug liberal when it comes to cannabis does´nt mean i´m liberal towards all drugs. My point is, if the government (this applies to all countries) lets the police concentrate on getting control (as much as it is possible) of drugs such as cocaine/crack, heroin, amphetamine.... these are the drugs that (not counting alcohol now) cause so much drug related crime & misery...... NOT cannabis.

Making it legal & controlled by the government also takes the power away from organised crime who can no longer count on cannabis as a source of income (unless the government are stupid enough to tax it to high).

Again, personal responsibility using any drug goes without saying.... be that alcohol or cannabis. Everything in moderation!

There's more chance by far of seeing it legalized here in the US than in the Philippines, where it is for some odd reason considered more evil and destructive than crystal meth, shabu, etc. Pure ignorance if you ask me.

I have nothing against marijuana, and in fact think it is less harmful/destructive than both regular tobacco based cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.

I'm all for it. It's way less harmful than the alternatives, and pot smokers are usually a peaceful lot. Why criminalize them?
