Fox News at Hotels & Resorts in the Philippines
This will be a political Topic/Post & how it´s related to the Philippines will show if u continue to read this post.
When in the Phils (November 2006) we stayed at the Bohol Tropics Resort in Bohol & at the Oxford Suites in Makati & to my delight the Bohol Tropics had the Fox News channel on their cable.....while the Oxford Suites didnt.
Now, what´s with this u might ask?
The thing is, ThePhils.com is of course very Pro Philippines (that goes without saying). However it´s also very much Pro American (as most Filipinos are as well).
When watching the FNC in our room at the Bohol Tropics Resort i was made aware that (i didnt know this) CNN had chosen to show a vid clip of Iraqi insurgent snipers shooting/killing American soldiers.
This is just wrong ! An American news network (CNN) showing anti American propaganda (which this vid capture ultimately was), It´s just so wrong & disrespecting towards the troops in Iraq & the families of all American soldiers back in the US.
It was therefore good to hear that the owner of the Midwestern Hotel Chain in the US took a stand & banned CNN from beeing shown at his Hotels.
Now, I´m personally against censorship of any kind (even though i support the action taken by the owner of the Midwestern Hotel chain as of making a point) so what i would want to see in Hotels & Resorts in the Philippines is; Go ahead & keep CNN for those who want to watch this commie news crap channel but, please ADD Fox News so that all of us that want to keep ourselves up to date with news from the US can have an alternative.
Can we as customers & guests make a difference & can we push for more Hotels & Resorts offering Fox News in the Phils? Sure ! All u/we have to do is to either let management know what we want by telling them or simply fill out the form that u´ll find at most Hotels (the kind of form where the Hotel management wants to know what is good & what is bad, opinions about the Hotel staff as well as opinions from the guests of how to improve overall service & so on).
Check out the Fox News Site:

Slightly related.......
I was able to watch FOX when I stayed at the Cadiallac-Cafe on MACTAN, but could not at the Golden Prince (a hotel in Ayala that I would never recommend nor consider staying at again).
I just hate watching CNN International.
BASEBALL, the NFL & the NHL should always come before Soccer. Well, that's my HO. I prefer the direct feed from the States.
Thank you

I let them know in every hotel I stay in that doesn't have FOX. Funny thing about hotels here though...you will not find a "Comments/Suggestion Box" readily available as you would in many other countries.

yeah sorry guys but bbc world is about the best and even they are just a propaganda machine which i have witnessed first hand, at the end of the day they just tell you what the powers that be want you to hear.
if you want to know a story check out both sides, so for iraq i recommend al jazeera, sure they are full of shit too but at least if you have both sides of a story you can sift out the bullshit and make up your own mind.
and as for baseball preceeding football (soccer in the us) come on!!??? baseball is the only sport where a world series involves no one else in the world!!! not really newsworthy outside the states eh!!

Well, I just love FOX NEWS. I can't stand CNN and BBC. I'm lucky because I can get FOX via cable here in Angeles, but I think most cable TV providers don't have FNC. I have never seen it while on vacation in Manila and La Union.

It seems like u´re in luck indeed Babaero . Just talked with an expat friend that lives in Iloilo & he can´t get FNC through cable anymore. I thought for a second that this might have been the situation for all of the Phils so you beeing able to get it is very good news.
Cheers!

You can also watch FNC via cable in the Subic Bay area and, at least last time I was up in the mountains, in Baguio.

Funny, I stayed at the same two hotels(among others) I was so surprised to see Fox news in Bohol. Nice resort with free internet in the lobby.
My GF did not like seeing the hookers in the lobby of the Oxford hotel so we only did stay one night. Don't recall the cable, I just think I stuck with HBO or Jack TV.

So tell her not to look.
I don't watch much tv while I am there usually. Perhaps if you comment to the cable company where you live they would consider it. Especially if you can get enough others to do the same.

Fox is available thru cable in Cagayan de Oro but the sports coverage from us sucks. I mean why do they have spelling bees on ESPN & do they have to have the same basketball game on 2 different chanells at the same time ?

I'm afraid I think that Fox News is the worst news channel I have ever come across.
It's got nothing to do with news, using any definition of 'news' that I'd be interested to pay any attention to.
It's just a conduit for right wing American propaganda. There's no objectivity. There's no international news outside of the political spectrum that involves the US.
Prefer the BBC myself - at least it has a semblance of impartiality, at least when discussing issues that don't involve the UK and US.
But prefer alternatve sources of news these days myself. Th media has sold itself dwn the river to big corporates. Just ask yourself why half the news is 'business news'!
